The President Publishes a Video

The President of the Republic has responded to the Prosecution’s invitation to provide clarifications regarding the complaint against the head of the Justice Appointment Council, Ardian Dvorani.

After giving evidence for about 60 minutes, Meta said that this is a flagrant case, while hoping that the prosecution will not be under political pressure to act. As part of this investigation, the Prosecution is expected to question the head of the Justice Appointment Council.

He was warned by the Tirana Prosecutor when he was summoned to report to Ardian Dvorani, President Meta has published a short video with his arguments about the actions he has taken to protect the Constitution.

For eight minutes in the video, the Head of the State, Ilir Meta, argues why the process of appointing members of the Constitutional Court has been politically corrupted and manipulated by the head of the Justice Appointments Council, Ardian Dvorani.

According to the Presidency, the head of the JAC has improperly disqualified 29 candidates.

Furthermore, the President says that the names of the Constitutional Court were predetermined, while, according to him, every constitutional deadline was violated.

The President says that the functioning of the Justice Appointment Council has been stalled for two years with the sole purpose of appointing Ardian Dvorani as its head.

The president says that with this scheme applied, JAC head Ardian Dvorani, sought to appoint one more judge to the Constitutional Court on behalf of the parliamentary majority.

The video concludes by pointing out that Dvorani has degraded the integrity of the Constitutional Court's process, while saying that the Assembly attempted to establish a corrupted court.
