Enviromental masacre in Kruja
Unregulated mining activity at Kruja Mountain has caused an environmental massacre.
Violation of the legislation is evidenced by the quarries or limestone kilns, but also by the negligence of governments that have been silent for years in the face of this phenomenon that has destroyed nature.
A Task Force composed of several institutions are making the next effort to close these businesses that have been allowed to erode away Kruja Mountain for decades.
Such institutions include the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
In addition to quarries, 26 limestone kilns are also being closed.
This action by the National Territory Defense Inspectorate was opposed by the owners of the mining companies, who were more interested in their business and profits, claiming to be unaware of the damage being caused to the surrounding nature.
The governments’ task force has its eyes set on 300 quarries across the country on which will undergo thorough documentation checks.
Kruja Mountain was declared a protected area last year and as such the quarries will be relocated to another area, though the location is yet to be determined by the government.
