Justice reform, Ad hoc comm. resumed; parties agreed upon some issues
The Ad hoc commission for Justice Reform resumed its discussions today concerning constitutional changes.The democrats returned today to the table of discussion, where the ambassador of the European Union Romana Vlahutin was also present. The Democrats returned to the commission after the majority met its requests for the establishment of an inquiry commission on CEZ issue and for sending the mandates of 2 Socialist MPs to the Constitutional Court.During the closed doors meeting, the parties agreed in principle to interrupt the mandates of the members of constitutional institutions. Regarding the mandate of the prosecutor General, the parties are open to discuss whether his mandate will be interrupted or not.The parties did not reach an agreement over the election of the members of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Supreme Council of the Prosecution.The chairman of the ad hoc commission on justice reform declared, after the meeting, that they had a fruitful discussion with the opposition. He added that the discussion was based on the Venice commission recommendations. According to him, the debate will not affect the basis of the reform.Meanwhile, the representative of the opposition in the ad hoc commission declared that the parties have agreed upon the anticorruption issues. He added though that the parties have not yet reached an agreement upon the new institutions that will be created.
