Azerbaijan-Armenia War Restarts, Rama Appeals To Parties: Return To Ceasefire Immediately

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacts to the renewedAzerbaijan-Armenia conflict.

As the head of the OSCE, Rama appeals to the parties fora ceasefire.

"I urge all involved to return immediately to theceasefire before the number of people in this conflict increases further,"Rama said.

The Chairman-in-Office also expressed his condolences tothe families of those who lost their lives in this latest round of violence.

Azeri-Armenian conflict:

The whole conflict has arisen because of the disputedregion, Nagorno-Karabakh. The region is internationally recognized as part ofAzerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians.

NagornoKarabakh seceded in the years of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Armenia andAzerbaijan were part of the communist state, which tried to suppress ethnic andreligious differences.

Theconflict in the Caucasus Mountains has remained unresolved for more than threedecades, with periodic fighting. Border clashes in July killed at least 16people, sparking the largest demonstration in years in the Azerbaijani capital,Baku, calling for the region to be recaptured.
