Ora News Petition For Correction Of The European Parliament Report On The Dissemination Of False News

The lawyers of Ora News and the president of the television, Ylli Ndroqi have opposed through a petition the findings and the language used in a study report published by the European Parliament.

The report entitled: "Tracing fake news and misinformation in the Western Balkans" accuses Ora News social media of spreading fake news and on the other hand uses insulting and unfounded labels against the president of Ora News.

The report, lawyers say, uses the wrong methodology when it says that Ora News social media has spread false news.

In fact, the drafters of the report did not take into account that it is the resistance not to publish the news served or the attempts to stop the publication of some news, that help the freedom of expression and the media.

"It seems illogical that in order to draw conclusions, you rely on articles written by those media outlets that you accuse of being important channels for spreading false news," the petition to the European Parliament and the report's authors said.

The report cites as fake news the publication of a video distributed by Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding alleged police checks in Spain on anti-Covid measures, which in fact turned out to have been recorded in Algeria.

The report also refers to a chronicle of the Italian television Rai 3 on drugs in Albania as well as cases of news about the Covid-19 pandemic, news that in fact are not authored by Ora News television itself.

Lawyers also point out that there is no legal evidence proving that the president of Yldon Media Group is an oligarch.

Referring to an article on the seizure of television, the authors of the report have misused the word Media Mogul, replacing it with oligarch.

The report on the spread of fake news in the Western Balkans was commissioned by the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee for research purposes.

"We regret that the same language is used in your report as the politically motivated accusations against Mr. Ndroqi, made by senior officials of the majority," said the lawyers' petition, which in turn calls on Parliament to remove the incorrect parts.
