Dom Gjergj Meta: The Pandemic Is Highlighting Other Pandemics. Stronger Social Awareness Is Needed

Dom Gjergj Meta today gave a strong message from Shkodraabout the time we live in. He listed some of the problems of Albanian society,which were highlighted by the pandemic.
Dom Gjergj Meta gave a message during a play held in Shkodra,dedicated to Lekë Tasi, the 92-year-old intellectual who suffered from themonist regime. Not only the 45 years of the communist regime but also the30-year period of transition, according to Dom Gjergj Meta has proved to usthat we have not yet overcome many problems.
"I would like a more conscious society. Let’s not say that time has passed and look to the future. This is important, but a future cannot be built on an unconscious past, as it is like building on rubble, building a house on fragile foundations.
Society awareness is essential to building the future, which must be done on sound foundations and not on rubble.
The foundations belong to the past, and the construction must be done on good foundations. Reconciliation comes through a stronger awareness, and this should be due to what has happened in our country.
The appeal is this. We attach great importance to relationships with each other. Pay close attention to mental health. The pandemic is revealing some other diseases like poverty, unemployment, inter-family relationships, domestic violence, abuse, corruption.
This pandemic is highlighting them more. The political conflict that I have repeated several times is gangrene for the Albanian society. Unfortunately there are no signs that this will be mitigated. We hope to have a broader perspective on these issues that the pandemic is highlighting. They have existed, but they are emerging even more "
Dom Gjergj Meta raises his voice about the phenomenon ofcrime.
"I do not see blood feuds as a problem and we should not stigmatize society for this problem.
Crime is a problem, which is based on economic interests, on the power for certain areas, cannabis cultivation areas, trafficking, due to the rule of lawlessness and corruption.
Statistically blood feud is not a problem, we have a few isolated families. And the problems of order are. Perhaps this has also happened because of the confusion created by the pandemic we are going through these days. The social chaos in Albania is stronger. ”
The messages were given after an artistic activity thattook place in Shkodra, where the bishop was present.
