SafeJournalists: Justice To Investigate Veliaj's Blackmailing Messages To RTV Ora And Ora News Journalists

The Network for Safe Journalists in the Western Balkans,SafeJournalists, has shown solidarity with the journalists of RTV Ora and OraNews and urges the authorities to investigate the blackmailing messagesaddressed to the journalists.

"It is essential for the relevant justice institutions to investigate the veracity of the correspondence.

If it is authentic, it is a clear case of an elected official who openly tries to change the content of the media and influence the editorial policy "- says Blerjana Bino, expert of SafeJournalists in Albania, emphasizing that Articles 22 and 23 of the Constitution and Article 4 of the Law on Audiovisual Media make this interference illegal.

"At the same time" - added Bino - "it is in the interest of the entire media community and the Albanian society that the ongoing investigation into the case of Mr. Ndoqi be conducted independently and properly in accordance with the rule of law, without interfering in the work of journalists and the mission of Ora News and RTV Ora as media ”.

The Network for Safe Journalists in the Western Balkansjoins colleagues in Albania in condemning the events surrounding Ora News andTV Ora.

These media are known to be critical of the governmentand, while the rule of law must be respected, it is important to separate theowner from journalists and other media professionals.

They should be allowed to do their job without politicalpressure and any other pressure. The context and manner of actions takenagainst Ora News and TV Ora sends a shocking message about what the criticalmedia expects of the government.
