Functional Constitutional Court? Meta: There Is Still Work To Be Done, To Aim To Be Independent Of Politics

President Ilir Meta stated that there is still work to make the Constitutional Court functional.

"The President has made every effort so that Albania is not left without a functioning Constitutional Court. But there is still work to be done to make it functional. I will support the independence of this institution and other institutions."

Today in the presidency was sworn in the sixth judge of the Constitutional Court, Përparim Kalo.

But who was the obstacle that the Court raised for almost 3 years and who withdrew now?

Ilir Meta:There is no withdrawal from the president regarding the constitutionality of this process.

This process has had and still has its shortcomings from the point of view of the law. Any speculation to compare the current situation with the one when the president clashed with the past with the parliament is inappropriate, because in that case we had an attempt to kidnap in a criminal and mafia manner a member of the Constitutional Court who belonged to the president to take the majority .

The Venice Commission made it clear who caused the incident that became intentional. "The president has acted as quickly as possible and has always been cooperative."

Citing the example of the decision of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, Meta underlined the importance of the independence of this court from politics.

"The functioning of the Constitutional Court is not over. Above all, we must follow and monitor the future functioning of this court and its decision-making.

We must aim to have a court independent of politics and any influence and guided by the national interest and the faithful observance of the Constitution of Albania. "
