Constitutional Changes In The Commission Are Approved: The Lists Are Opened, The Coalitions Are Removed

The majority and the parliamentary opposition haveapproved an amendment to the Constitution in the Legislative Council, to pavethe way for a change in the system.

140 deputies, with these changes will be elected withthe regional proportional system with national correction.

Partially open lists and the abolition of pre-electioncoalitions are two of the issues proposed by the new opposition and hastilyapproved by Socialist Party MPs.

With the new changes 140 deputies next year will beelected with a system proportional to regional competition and nationalthreshold.

But again the deputies who signed the constitutionalchanges demand guarantees from the majority for the regional threshold.

With the vote of the Legislative Council and the LawCommission, the terms "electoral coalitions" and"threshold" have been removed from the Constitution to be detailed inthe Code.

Twelve years later, history repeats itself, since thelast constitutional interventions in 2008 on election-related issues.

But now the SP and DP are not the main actors, but themajority has replaced the latter with the deputies who came from their lists.

One week after the changes in the code are approvedaccording to the agreement of May 5, in the session of July 30, the changeswill require the votes of at least 94 deputies.
