Official/ SP Demands The Opening Of The Lists And Guarantees: The Agreement Of June 5 Is Not Affected
The Socialist Party declares itself in favor of openingthe lists but on the other hand guarantees that it will not be affected by anyof the amendments to the new electoral code agreed in the June 5 agreement withthe opposition outside the assembly.
The position was made public today by Prime MinisterRama and the head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, in a pressrelease.
Balla: The official position of the SP parliamentary group is that we agree in principle with the three proposed changes.
It turns out that Albanians want not only to express a vote for the party and the party chairman, but also a preferred vote for one of the candidates on the list of each of the parties participating in the election.
We support in principle the initiative of the deputies of the parliamentary opposition. We support an opening of the lists.
Everything agreed in the June 5 agreement will not be affected.
The electoral code was submitted on July 1, on July 15 the law commission will discuss it, none of the amendments will be affected.
There are two processes that run independently of each other.
Edi Rama: After a long and delayed process for electoral reform.
You know the reasons for the delays. According to all the rules of procedure, either the point-by-point reflection of the agreement made with the extra-parliamentary opposition or the initiative of the parliamentary opposition has entered the process in the Assembly.
The SP's stance comes just a day after six members ofthe parliamentary opposition voted in favor of approving the new electoral codeagreed in the June 5 agreement.
This agreement should be voted on July 23 in theAssembly.
With the 75 deputies that the socialist majority in theAssembly has, joining the vote of Tom Doshi and the two PDIU deputies, it goesto 78 deputies.
By joining the votes of the 6 deputies of the parliamentaryopposition who appeared today before the Presidency of the Assembly and gavetheir support in favor of the New Electoral Code, they provide the 84 votesneeded to approve it in the Assembly.
