War Against Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering Structures Are Starting To Work

The General Prosecutor's Office has set up specialstructures in the fight against money laundering, property investigations orany other financial crime.

These structures have started working in 7 prosecutor'soffices near the courts of the judicial districts of Tirana, Durrës, Shkodër,Elbasan, Fier, Vlora and Korçë.

There are 23 prosecutors, part of special sections, whowill be engaged in investigations related to crimes in the field of taxation,customs, money laundering, terrorist financing, and seizure and confiscation ofcriminal assets.

The established structures will be supported byspecialized units from the General Directorate of State Police, the Directoratefor the Prevention of Money Laundering and the Directorate of Taxes.

There will also be cooperation for their work betweenthe General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry ofFinance.

Through the creation of these structures, the aim is tocrack down on illegally placed assets.
