Albanian Order of Pharmacist: Medicines Used To Treat Covid Patients Not Certified
A day after meeting family doctors, Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha held a conversation with leaders of the Order of Pharmacists, another key system in dealing with the pandemic.
During the meeting with them, Basha raised the concern about the cost of treating patients with Covid as well as the lack of reimbursable medicines in the pharmacy, saying that even pharmacists have become like list stores.
Basha: Pharmacists have been in the front line as pharmacists even though the government did not include them in the support package. This has also caused loss of life, two pharmacists who have lost their lives from Covid. My main concern is that the treatment has affordable costs that start minimally from 200 thousand ALL to 1 million and 200 thousand old ALL. They are not reimbursed. It is an unaffordable sum. The other problem is the situation with medicines, there is an alarm about the lack of reimbursable medicines. Pharmacies are back in the same way as other commercial units in list stores. In this pandemic situation it seems that no measures have been taken for the uninterrupted supply of essential medicines, mainly antiviral and flu vaccine.
Diana Toma, President of the Order of Pharmacists, raised the concern that physicians do not have a treatment protocol for COVID patients and the lack of protocols burdens the pharmacist with an unnecessary responsibility.
Diana Toma: The weight falls on the health system, other systems also depend on it. The pharmaceutical system is a crucial army in the health system but was excluded from pandemic administration. We were asked a lot but our problems were not heard. The health system either functions as a whole, or with broken links fails. We have no institutional representation and our problems are not heard. Doctors do not have a treatment protocol for COVID patients. Lack of protocols burdens the pharmacist with an unnecessary responsibility. We have no normative act on how to treat the patient. No legal regulation for the treatment of patients by telephone.
They also demanded reimbursement from the state of the package for the treatment of Covid-19, while giving the alarm that there are shortages of antiviral drugs that fight COVID.
According to them, but unsafe and illegal medicines are used to treat patients.
Gazment Koduzi: Private nurse fee at home, 100 thousand ALL per day. It would be appropriate for the package to be fully reimbursable.
Dëfrim Goma: The financial burden of reimbursing the anti-Covid package is not great for the state. The cost of reimbursing the package is affordable by the state. Only 9,500 flu vaccines have been delivered. There is a shortage of antiviral drugs that fight COVID. Unsafe and illegal medicines are being used to treat patients.
Diana Toma: We are in an unbalanced market situation, the activity of institutions must be harmonized to cope with the situation. The state must lead this fight against COVID.
Dëfrim Goma: Medicines can be authorized in an expedited manner. The entities that trade in these drugs must be registered and authorized.
Diana Toma: We must guarantee that the vaccine comes to Albanian patients.
