Politics in Albania, busy with the election campaign for April 25, although it has not officially started yet, seems to have forgotten the 577th anniversary of the Lezha Covenant.
March 2, 1444 was commemorated by representatives of politics in Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and the Presevo Valley, who were in Lezha today.
Among them was Albin Kurti of the Vetëvendosje Movement.
They marched on the boulevard “Gjergj Fishta” and then paid homage and laid wreaths at the obelisk of the Covenant, while visiting the tomb of Skanderbeg.
As today, on March 2, 1444 in the Cathedral Church of St. Koll in the city of Lezha, where today is the memorial of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, the Covenant of Lezha was held, one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people during the medieval period.
It was March 2, 1444, when Gjergj Kastriot Skënderbeu, immediately after returning from Turkey, for the first time in the history of the Albanian Middle Ages gathered in one assembly all the Albanian principalities, in order to withstand the Ottoman attack.
Exactly, the realization of the unification of all Albanian princes in a joint assembly by Skanderbeg is one of his greatest and most innovative ideas.
