The Pandemic Does Not Stop Construction Permits, More Constructions In Tirana

Work in the construction sector in the country has not been curbed even by the spread of the coronavirus. Despite the difficult situation in the country in April, May and June, municipalities have approved a significant number of building permits.

INSTAT reports that during the second quarter when it was the peak of the pandemic, 322 thousand 294 square meters of construction area were provided with a slight decrease compared to the first quarter.

Detailed data show that the capital occupies more than 80% of this total, where 264 thousand 387 square meters of area have been provided for new buildings.

Despite the fact that during April and May there was almost a total suspension of activities, municipalities have approved 209 building permits with an increase of 14% compared to the first quarter.

Referring to INSTAT data, it results that this has come from the increase in the number of permits issued by the municipalities of Durrës, Elbasan, Berat, Fier, Shkodra, Lezha and Dibra.

On the other hand, the capital has marked a decrease in the number of permits compared to the first quarter, while the only one that has not issued any construction permit is the municipality of Kukës.

Although permits have increased compared to the first three months of the year they are declining compared to the same period a year ago.

INSTAT notes that the data for the region of Tirana have been updated and it turns out that the number of construction permits during 2019 is higher than previously reported.

In the second quarter, the approximate value of construction permits approved for buildings and engineering works is ALL 14.8 billion from ALL 18.1 billion in the same period a year earlier.
