Summit On Constitutional Changes? Rama Meeting With Meta And Basha On Monday

Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded positively to the idea put forward by President Ilir Meta to discuss the issue of constitutional changes in the Political Council, inviting even the Head of State to the table.

"SP has no obligation to DPSMI except the June 5 agreement, which it will support until the end! But if the presidential opposition (PO) thinks that the official constitutional initiative is worth discussing in the Political Council, the SP has nothing to oppose, even with the PO on the table," Rama writes.

But the head of government has raised this discussion to the highest level, stating that he expects Lulzim Basha and Ilir Meta in the Political Council.

"SP has all the will to make every effort to convince DPSMIPO for the benefit that the constitutional initiative has for Albania, and I am ready to go to the Political Council this time, where LB or IM is coming, if they want, it will be even better obviously. Ready on Monday," Rama writes.

Earlier, Meta announced that he had requested a meeting with the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, to see if he was open for this issue to be discussed in the Political Council.

"This morning, without a good dawn, I asked for a meeting with Mr. Basha to see if he was open to such an idea.

He introduced me to the official position of the Democratic Party and the United Opposition that has been made public and has been announced to all partners concerned about the European future of our country.

I am convinced that there are so many intellectuals and citizens who share this concern as Prof. Kume. For this reason, I am sharing with all of you this very responsible and cooperative attitude of the United Opposition.

The President also quoted excerpts from the statement of the Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi to support this initiative.

"If the Socialist Party is really interested in reopening the discussion on other issues related to electoral reform, it is obliged by the January 14 Agreement and the June 5 Agreement to submit them for discussion and consensual decision-making in the Political Council.

Any such discussion, under the Agreement, may not delay or impede the codification of the June 5 Agreement."
