Today, the Sofia Summit will bring together regional leaders and leaders of key EU countries to support the European path of the Western Balkan countries.
The first to arrive in the Bulgarian capital was Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who was received by local counterpart Boyko Borissov.
Through a Twitter post Borissov writes:
“I welcomed the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zaev in Sofia, where the Berlin Process Summit will start this year, which will be held by both countries.”
The trio that will officially open the summit held as part of the Berlin Process are German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council Majlinda Bregu and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.
The plenary session, which starts at 11:25 am and discusses the Common Regional Market, will be addressed by all heads of delegations, part of the Berlin process.
Prime Minister Edi Rama is said to be delivering his speech after French President Emanuel Macron and Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic.
During the “online” conference yesterday with the Serbian President and the Macedonian Prime Minister, Prime Minister Rama welcomed the participation in today’s summit of Kosovo.
The most important decision of this summit is the creation of the Regional Common Market.
