Meta: I was pleased to receive today the new UN Resident Coordinator in Albania, Mrs. Fiona McCluney, on the occasion of the beginning of her mandate in our country. I assured her of full cooperation and support in the exercise of her duty.
I stressed the importance of accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 for Albania, which are also in line with our strategic objective for EU integration.
I expressed my gratitude for the role of UN Agencies in Albania in promoting human rights, as well as providing support to Albanian institutions in implementing the recommendations of international human rights organizations. I also praised the intention to increase investment in social protection.
Special thanks to the Secretary-General for the support that United Nations agencies in Albania have provided to Albanian institutions and the affected population in the fight against COVID-19.
Referring to the fact that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN, which also coincides with the 65th anniversary of Albania’s accession to the UN, I suggested working together for a calendar of activities, not just to commemorate these important events, but also to make a balance of Albania’s excellent cooperation with the UN.
