Snow covers the northeast, problems in mountainous areas

The first snow precipitation for some of the country's districts has fallen today and as such, has begun creating the first problems!

In the remote areas of the district of Dibra, the snow reached 30 centimeters thickness and consequently some villages are isolated.

There are difficulties in Lurë, Doda Castle, Ostren and Tërnovë.

Meanwhile the vehicle trafficability is poor on the Kukës-Peshkopi axis, due to frost and snow thickness reaching up to 25 centimeters, according to reports.

Since the early morning hours the snowfall has covered the whole district of Kukës.

In Kukës the snow reached 10 centimeters, while in Bajram Curri it is up to 30 centimeters.

In rural roads there are difficulties in circulation and chains are needed for the movement of vehicles.

National roads crossing the Kukës region do have snow present. They remain passable at this stage although the risk of sliding rocks falling has increased.

The National Highway is trafficable throughout its length and traffic Police are conducting inspections that all vehicles are equipped appropriately for the winter conditions. At this stage, the Qafë Mali Fierzë Road is also still passable.

The teaching process continues normally throughout the county, but some villages of Tropoja are suffering from a lack of electricity.

The Emergency Headquarters in Kukës says there have been no emergencies reported and that the contractors companies are utilizing 30 vehicles and 62 workers to maintain the roads and ensure they are kept open.

Snow precipitation has also been recorded in the Dukagjin area of Shkodra, but the inhabitants of the deep mountainous area have not reported any problems.

On Thursday snowfall returned to the Korça region, where no problems were reported.
