Selenica's massacre, Ritvan Zykaj kills eight

The Kalashnikov hail with which Ritvan Zyka shot 8 people on Friday closed the doors to three homes in Selenica, within which the walls will no longer hold life.

The 24-year-old, known to be a rather strange individual, immediately left the scene and escaped on the ground that he knew very well due to his work as a shepherd for many years.

During this time he did not hesitate to express anger over those who, on social networks, demanded the maximum punishment for his horrific crime.

Police, with the utmost commitment from Renea, Rapid intervention forces and Delta Force, took 12 hours to finally handcuff Ritvan Zykaj. At about 5am this morning, he was found hiding in an area of dense vegetation.

The 24-year-old also kept hold of the weapon with which he tragically ended the lives of 8 people, among them two children, as well as a cell phone that is thought to have been used to negotiate with the Police.

Zykaj did not resist, instead he still seemed bloodthirsty with no regret for the terror which he had just inflicted.

He was escorted to the police station in Vlora where the charge "Murder in qualifying circumstances, against two or more persons" was laid ensuring that he will confront justice.

During the first interrogation hearing, Zykaj, after having asked his lawyer, said his relatives were making several accusations of theft against him.

So how did such a grave event occur that could shake the whole of Albania?

Shortly before the crime, Zykaj was suspected of having been at a family dinner, where he is believed to have consumed a considerable amount of alcohol before leaving early.

The first stop was made to his home, where it is understoos he collected the gun and then went to his great-uncle Demiri's house to shoot thw 75-year-old dead, along with 72-year-old Perie.

The anger did not subside and he then went to his uncle Besimi's home, where he relentlessly emptied his weapon into him, his wife, Vasilika, and two children Sara and Ledioni, aged 16 and 8 years old respectively.

Ledioni was in the middle of eating when the incident occurred.

When they heard shouts and shooting, Azemi, the other son of Demiri, along with his wife Afërdita, went to Besimi's apartment, only to find themselves facing the bullets of Ritvan Zykaj.

The first man to see this awful occurance was Demiri's brother.

Albi Zykaj, Sara and Ledjoni's brother, as well as his two cousins, Azemi's sons, one of whom lives in Albania and the other in Greece was saved from the crime.

The three young men were left to bear the tragedy on their own shoulders as they were removed from their loved ones.
