Rama’s Finances Decline

Although for six years he had been at the head of the Albanian government, 2018 has apparently not been a good year for Edi Rama's finances.

His art exhibitions abroad have been numerous, with paintings and sculptures created by the Prime Minister himself, however his art has not been all that rewarding.

Ceramic works and wallpapers displayed in Rostok, Germany, along with an exhibition titled “Fantastic Notes by the Albanian Prime Minister” still hang in one Vienna's art galleries.

In May of 2018, RTV Ora reported that in every Italian bookstore, the book titled “Kurban” by Prime Minister Rama was sold out.

Regardless of the extent of his art spanning across Europe, Rama has not gained satisfactory incomes from his work compared to previous years.

During the 2018 year, Edi Rama, as an artist, managed to earn only 930 thousand leke from his artistic creations, including the sales of his artistic work abroad.

The Prime Minister has seen a decline in his earnings as an artist compared to a year ago, where, thanks to his paintings, sculptures and books he was able to collect roughly 3.8 million leke.

According to the form containing his declaration of assets, it is said that the Prime Minister has a net annual salary of about 2 million lekë.

In this form, it is also noted there are missing royalties.

But after coming into power in 2013, the Prime Minister was forced to obtain a credit worth 80 thousand euros. After 6 years, Rama is still in debt as he has to repay the remaining loan of 22 thousand euros.

2018 has been a difficult year for Rama's finances, which may have felt the brunt of the political crisis at home: a situation that has not left him able to focus on his art, but rather maintaining an upper edge in Albania's political landscape.
