The Democratic Party General Secretary, Gazment Bardhi, said in a statement to the media that Electoral Reform is not and will not be a matter for the Albanian Parliament.
Bardhi said that two main issues of the Electoral Reform were closed today, namely financing of political party campaigns and issues related to the administration of the electoral process.
He also added that they have proposed a mechanism to collaborate with the other party to engage together in successfully fulfilling one of the terms of the negotiations.
“Today we have closed two main issues of Electoral Reform related to the financing of political party campaigns as well as issues related to the administration of the electoral process.
“We have definitely proposed an organization to jointly engage in successfully meeting one of the negotiating conditions. Electoral Reform.
“Not just an Electoral Reform approved on paper, but a genuine Electoral Reform, is a condition for opening negotiations.
“We need to emphasize and make it clear that Electoral Reform is not and will not be a matter for the Albanian Parliament.
“The Electoral Reform, and issues that are related to the Electoral Reform, are the rules of the game for political parties participating in elections.
“As you know, the Albanian Parliament does not participate in the elections.
“Political parties participate in the elections and it is up to the political parties to determine, by consensus, the rules of the game and for the participation of electoral subjects in elections.
“For this reason, we have proposed a mechanism to cooperate with the other party.
“The joint product includes the realization of the Electoral Reform required by the Albanian citizens.
“Albanian citizens demand that the Electoral Reform guarantees free and fair elections,” said Bardhi.
