No negotiations, Rama: Our mandate until 2021

Before embarking on his trip to Italy, Prime Minister Edi Rama attended parliament today, entering the Assembly Hall on foot and with strict security measures imposed.

Speaking from the parliamentary podium, Prime Minister Edi Rama had a clear and concise message for the opposition.

He said they are ready to discuss everything with the opposition, but stressed he would not accept ‘gambling’ with mandates, explaining the voter had entrusted all those who held mandates to govern until 2021.

“We are ready to dialogue, but not to discuss the terms of the Government or ruling majority”.

Prime Minister, Edi Rama, accused the opposition from the Parliamentary podium today saying that they took extreme measures on a journey for which they had not planned a clear destination.

He mentioned that his government has tolerated too much, even two years ago when they accepted a transitional government composed of both socialists and democrats.

“The Opposition is a group of people without any idea, without a program, without anything. They degenerated too soon. They could not collaborate with us. So, they have left the institution,” said Rama.

He made it clear that the Government was voted for by the Albanians and that the majority has every intention to govern until the end.

“We cannot give power under the table. We are voted for by the citizens of Albania and we will never accept a transitional government,” said Rama.

He also had a message regarding the local elections expected to be held on June 30.

“They no chance to win in our municipalities, but now they risk losing even on those that they currently govern,” underlined Rama.

The head of the government invited the opposition to face the majority head on in the June 30th battle, issuing the challenge it that the majority could very well win all 61 municipalities.

Further, Rama said the majority would find the right way to co-operate with the new opposition in the Assembly in order to move forward with electoral reform.

“With the new opposition being created, the electoral reform will move forward. We will dialogue with the new opposition and then they will see who the majority in Albania is,” said Prime Minister Rama.

He went on to promise that the institutions and Parliament will continue to work despite the opposition's decision to stay out of the institutions.

“We are here to continue our work and realize our duty. People voted us to govern until 2021. Our mandate is not a game,” Rama concluded concisely.
