Miners seek status, meeting with govt representatives

Employees of the Mining Industry have again brought to attention the issue of the miners' status, which offers more social support and better financial treatment in gratitude for their working years.

Today they met with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enis Aliko, and Deputy Minister of Finance, Danja Sorensen.

Both officials asked the miners for a month in order to calculate the effect of the bill on the state budget.

Unhappy with this response, they headed to the Prime Minister's Office, where Trade Union Chairman Fiqiri Xibri was received in a meeting by representatives of the Cabinet.

However, the miners were left to wait again, at least until Wednesday, when they have been promised a meeting with the prime minister and other relevant ministers.

If they again do not receive an answer on Wednesday, the miners will return to protest and say they will not to hesitate to strike.

The status that the miners refer was proposed by MP Përparim Spahiu who has since made some changes.

This draft law was rejected by the government with the claim that it has negative effects on the state budget.

Also according to the government, the draft law contains constitutional and labor code violations.
