Meeting with ambassadors, Kryemadhi meets EU ambassadors

We are now a week away from next week's big protest organized by the opposition on February 16th. Today, the chair of the Socialist Movement for Integration party, Monika Kryemadhi, held a meeting with the Ambassadors of the European Union sharing the views of the Socialist Movement for Integration in order to open up negotiations and to expedite reforms.

At the two-hour meeting, Kryemadhi was accompanied by the speaker of the SMI Parliamentary group, Petrit Vasili. She stated:

“It is the second meeting that we have had. We will do this annually, not only with the European Union ambassadors but also with representatives from the US Embassy: two institutions that are strategic partners of Albania.

“The Socialist Movement for Integration party shared its opinions with international institutions regarding our stance for the opening of negotiations and reforms.

“Today Albania is much too late to jump into the process of European Integration but the future of Albania has no other direction to go.”

When asked whether or not part of the discussion also included the topic of protests, Kryemadhi responded: "The protest on the 16th of February is not only on the Ambassador's table for discussion, but on every Albanian's table."

When questioned whether the European Union Ambassador expressed the same assessment as Justice Minister Gjonaj suggesting that Justice Reform is in fact moving forward, Kryemadhi replied:

“Justice Reform cannot have two standards. For example, in the case of Donika Prela's husband, for one prosecutor: it is not a problem that he didn't pay taxes to the Albanian state, while for another Prosecutor there must bring proof that his cousin has paid taxes in Italy amounting to 25 thousand Euros.”
