"Kosova Security Force", Kosovo Forms a Professional Army

Kosova will have a new professional army entitled the "Kosova Security Force".

With over 100 positive votes from member of all political parties except those from the Serbian List, the MPs of the Assembly voted in three draft Laws that allowed for the transformation of the previous force into an official military under the same name.

Today's session also hosted a minute of silence in honor of the soldiers and patriots who had sacrificed themselves over the years for the sake of the country's plight for independence.

Kosovar President Hashim Thaçi, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, and the Kosovar Security Force Commander Rrahman Rama all were in attendance for the session.

The head of the Assembly considered the voting a historic moment.

“Today begins a new era for our country as a result of this vote. From this moment we officially have the Army of Kosova. Congratulations to our soldiers, from today, gatitu!” said Kadri Veseli.

The new professional Kosovar army will consist of at least 5000 troops and 3000 reserves double the existing force that was established back in 2009.

Local authorities expressed that the Security force will be tasked with handling crisis situations, such as the immediate response, as well as co-ordinating with the North Atlantic Alliance and other allies.

The complete transformation of the professional army is expected to last up to 10 years and throughout this time Kosova will continue to be maintained by the multinational peacekeeping forces, KFOR.
