Frosty conditions, national axes are open

Hundreds of families remain isolated in the Dibër region where the temperatures have dropped to minus 12 degrees Celsius, and frost along with the precipitation of snow continues to hinder movement.

Precipitations have now stopped, but the amount of snowfall ranges from 40 centimeters in cities up to 2 meters in more remote areas.

Constant frost and low temperatures are causing havoc in the district of Dibër where hundreds of families remain isolated and cut off from their communities.

As a consequence of the significant amounts of snow, the streets of administrative units are open but the roads between villages remain blocked.

115 families have been isolated for 10 days in the villages of Tërnovë e Madhe and Tërnovë e Vogël, as is the case in communities of Sllovë, Lurë and Kala e Dodës.

Even the inhabitants of Bulqizë have to walk all the way to the main roads just travel into their city to purchase any kind of goods.

In Kukës, the depth of snow in many areas exceeds 1 meter and there still remains areas that are completely blocked off, including the villages of Arrën, Zapod, Kalis and some villages in Malzi, Bicaj and Bushtricë.

In Tropoja, all roads are passable with snow chains, but authorities have warned citizens to take extra precaution due to the danger of avalanches caused by the recent heavy snowfall.

Shala and Shoshi in Malësinë e Dukagjinit are blocked off in the region of Shkodër, while in the city of Shkodër itself, problems occurring from the frost in streets still present a constant hazard.

In the Dibrër and Elbasan districts, the problem faced by many residents is the lack of electricity, where thousands of families have been without power for three days due to the damage on power lines.

All National Roads are now open, however, snow chains are still required.
