74th liberation day, ceremony at martyrs cemetery

President Ilir Meta and Prime Minister Edi Rama paid homage today at the Cemetery for the Nation's Martyrs.

Many activities are expected to be held for the 74th anniversary of the Liberation of the country.

As with every year, the Democratic Party did not pay homage for the 29th of November, because they recognize November 28 as Albania's Liberation Day, which is also the Independence Day.

The 29th of November also created a separation of ideals for the opposition, as the chair of the SMI, Monika Kryemadhi, together with SMI MPs attended the ceremony for the Martyrs, unlike Lulzim Basha and his DP members.

The ceremony was a symbolic one, with the placement of festoons, wreaths and flowers in front of the monument "Mother Albania" whilst leaving aside statements for the media.

The chair of The Socialist Movement for Integration, Monika Kryemadhi also held homage at a separate ceremony.

According to Monika Kryemadhi, this is a day to remember those who gave everything to the homeland.

“Our honor for these men and women is the least we can do for them because they are the ones who gave everything to the homeland and did not take anything,” said Monika Kryemadhi.

The 29th of November is celebrated nationally as the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Albania from Nazi forces.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj congratulated the Albanian people via a post on Twitter.

Mayor Veliaj expressed his gratitude to all those who gave sacrifice for the freedom of the homeland, making our country the only one in Eastern Europe that was liberated by its own forces.

“Glory to the Martyrs of the Nation, Gratitude to the veterans and family members of those who gave their lives for freedom in the only place in Eastern Europe that was liberated by its forces, without the march of Soviet troops through our land,” congratulated Veliaj.

After the official ceremonies, as has now become a tradition, Enver Hoxha's nostalgic followers then came to the Martyrs' cemetery to make their honors.

The communists had something to say to the Rama Government as they labeled them directly after the remains of Mid'hat Frashëri, which was seen as an act of disloyalty.

“The Albanian people and the whole world saw and listened aloud to the shameful ceremony of government of Edi Rama for bringing the remains of Mid’hat Frashëri,” said the Enver Hoxha nostalgic.
