More than 1,000 patients have sought medical help in Tirana’s hospital for the flu.
The Chief of the Pneumology service is asking people who suffer from chronic diseases to be prudent and requests the immediate end of taking medicines without a doctors’ prescription.
The Chief of the Pneumology service confirmed two deaths due to flu complications, and said that if flu symptoms last more than 5 days, serious problems can arise.
“A normal flu virus may last from 3 to 7 days. If the symptoms continue beyond 7 days, than the patient should no longer consult with their family doctor, but they should then consult with a lung specialist”-she said, adding that hospitals are equipped with all the necessary medicines, but there is great concern for patients taking medicines without a doctors’ prescription.
According to doctors, children and teenagers should avoid taking aspirin to reduce fever or other flu symptoms, as it can cause Reye’s syndrome. Citizens should see their family doctor to receive treatment and any prescriptions they may need.
