The Albanian Parliament has re-opened the application for the Ombudsman’s position.
After debates at the Parliamentary Law Commission between the Majority representatives on whether or not to re-open the application, Parliament agreed to re-open it and has publicized some criteria that candidates must meet in order to apply for the position.
A candidate who applies for this position must be an Albanian citizen, must have knowledge of human rights and freedoms, must have knowledge of the laws, have professional capability, must have not been previously convicted, and must not be a Member of Parliament, in order to be eligible for the position.
The mandate of the current Ombudsman was terminated on December 22nd, and Parliament should have already elected a new Ombudsman.
Candidates have 20 days time to apply for the position; and 4 candidates have been presented so far. The current Ombudsman has also put in his application in hopes for another mandate.
