Vetting continues, Bici and Medja awaiting IQC decision: Selimi and Abdullai

The vetting process has hit another member of the Supreme Court, putting this institution in trouble regarding its operation. The Independent Qualification Commission dismissed the judge Shkëlzen Selimi, referring to the components relating to his image purity.

According to the IQC, the Judge had two contacts with individuals suspected of being involved in organized crime. The judge himself called the process 'manipulated' days before, and today he chose not to attend the session.

Another member of the Supreme Court, Medi Bici, appeared before the body of the Independent Qualification Commission, where they identified problems with his wealth.

According to the The High Inspectorate of Declaration, Audit of Assets and Conflict of Interests report and commission investigations, Bici has declaration has inaccuracies and false statements made to conceal the lack of wealth justification.

It was unclear as to where the funding for the building of a 4 storey villa in Tirana came from, as well as a 10 thousand euro loan taken from his brother for school fees.

Bici presented 11 additional documents before the trial chamber of the Independent Qualification Commission, while accusing The High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets and Conflict of Interests of having misplaced his documents.

Bici assumes that everything is transparent while saying that all his wealth has been verified and supported by concrete documents.

“It took three years to build the house because of the small financial possibilities. 20 million lekë was the full cost and since 1997 I have never made a change to it because of my financial inability.

“My brother helped me to educate my children because at that time my wife was left out of work. The biometric passports we have do not have any customs stamps except for Kosovo and Macedonia.

“We have taken holidays here because we did not have the opportunity to go abroad. I am the oldest judge and in 1997 I was declared the Judge of the Year," said Medi Bici.

The Independent Qualification Commission dismissed the Tirana judge, Bledar Abdullai as, according to the investigation, it turns out that his wife cannot justify the source of the 400,000 euro she has.

Meanwhile, this body also held a hearing for the Judge of the Tirana First Instance Court, Gentjan Medja, who does not own any property, but concerns were raised regarding his professional skills.
