Unsafe Beaches

Even though we are in the middle of the tourist season, there are still subjects on the beaches of Lezha who are not implementing the law regarding Life Guards.

Problems have been raised by RTV Ora since the start of the season and have also been confirmed by the Director of Lezha Police, who has called on the municipality to take measures.

Despite the requirements to do so, no observation towers have been erected on the beaches of Shëngjin and Tale in Lezha and these popular holiday destinations for families remain unmanned.

The concern was raised by vacationers at the beginning of the tourist season, but Even now nothing has been done to provide a solution to the safety concerns.

“Not all entities have met the conditions according to the Council of Ministers' decision on life guards, or other such measures that should be in force during the tourist season,” said Ferdinand Mara.

The Deputy Mayor of Lezha Municipality, Enver Hafizi, has announced sanctions will be applied against subjects that do not adhere to the criteria set out in the contract entered into with the municipality which allows them to operate along the shores.

“We are in discussions with operators to impose sanctions if they do not erect Life Guard Towers,” said Enver Hafizi.

Two people have already died on the beaches of Lezha this summer season, with accusations being raised that in both cases the deaths could have been avoided if operators had been respecting the laws that provide safety to vacationers.
