Meta “Slap” on Rama and Basha

According to President Ilir Meta, the imaginary "victories" of Rama and Basha have become a real threat to the country's future.

Raising the alarm on this issue via a status on Facebook, the President explained that neither the Prime Minister nor the opposition leader have yet been persuaded to sit down at a joint table to end the political crisis.

The President declared that the elections of June 30 were biased and illegal, whilst also criticizing the opposition for stating that the 85% of Albanians who did not participate in the elections were declaring support for the DP.

Meta reiterated that this percentage would have given them an incredible ruling majority and a clear reason to celebrate victory, if the opposition had simply participated in the elections.

“Victims of these “victories” are all the Albanian citizens without political differences. I am referring to the "real" victory of the current majority, which in its unilateral and illegal elections declared victory in 100% of the municipalities of Albania.

“But even the enthusiasm of opposition leaders, that they won 85%, is impressive, not forgetting that it would be enough for them to receive a quarter of that to achieve a real institutional victory in the vast majority of local government units,” said President Meta.

According to the Head of State, such victories, not only close the door on October 18 to the decision on the European Union negotiations with Albania, but could have more severe consequences on democratic institutions.

“Integration is out of the question. We can only hope that we will not be punished in the current institutions that deal with the protection of local autonomy, local democracy and human rights,” stated Meta.

“In the meantime, the elimination of the accountability of the local government serves only the minority that does not know rotation of power, focussed only on their own richness, arrogant and dealing with public property in an uncontrollable manner.

Despite repeated calls for a solution to the crisis, Prime Minister Rama still has no answer for the President's appeal. Meanwhile, DP leader, Lulzim Basha refuses to sit at the table with Edi Rama Prime Minister.
