Influx in the border, easter brings queues

Many Albanians who live abroad are returning to celebrate the Orthodox Easter in their homeland.

Since Friday evening an influx of arrivals has been observed at the border points with Greece and a total of 7200 people have entered in the last 24 hours at Kapshtica border point.

The large number of arrivals in a short time resulted in large queues forming and high wait times.

But unlike past years, there is also an increase in the number of Albanians traveling to Greece to celebrate with their family members living and working across the border.

In 24 hours, over 4100 people exited Albania at the Kapshtica customs point.

To help in managing the queues, the Albanian side opened 5 counters at the entrance and 2 in the exit.

The situation in Kakavija appears to be quieter. In the last 24 hours, 4300 people have entered at the southern border point, while 3213 others have entered Greece.

Increased arrival numbers have also reported at the border crossing point of Murriqan, while the peak of the movement is expected in the evening hours.
