Flood damage, withdrawal of Vjosa river reveals true extent

As the rain stops and the water of the Vjosa River retreats to its bed, the situation in flooded areas of Fier and Vlore is improving.

However, as the water begins to withdraw, it leaves behind the true impact of the devastation that has been caused by this winter's second major flood.

77 families of 350 residents have been evacuated from their homes, 150 hectares of land are under the water in Novosele area Vlora and water levels have reached 40 cm in the village of Fitore.

A 77-year-old woman, who was found in bed in her apartment and in a serious condition, was rescued and sent to the hospital for help.

The water level is also declining in the territory of the Municipality of Fier, although 108 apartments, about 350 hectares of agricultural land and 40 hectares of greenhouses are under water.

The Shkumbini River flooded residents of Thanasaj village in Lushnje for the third time, where water and clay ran into the houses, leaving behind significant damage.
