EU: Solution is among you

EU: Solution is among you

The European Union still has hope that political parties can find the bridge of dialogue on the issue of the local elections.

The EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca, at the departure of the “Europe Week”, explained that the solution will not come from Brussels.

In doing so, it is understood he was making a reference to the upcoming visit to Tirana by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

He said it is very important that Albanians be represented by all political parties in the elections.

The head of the EU delegation stressed that some EU countries seek the postponement of the decision for Albania due to the short time between the Commission's issuance of the report and the Council of Ministers meeting.

However, Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, expressed greater optimism than Prime Minister Edi Rama, saying that Albania's decision is expected to be made in June.

He added that if the opening of negotiations becomes a reality, it will be an opportunity to make changes.

“We expect the commission report, which will be published by the end of this month, to be inalienable evidence of a positive transformation, highlighting the substantial progress that the country has made on the irreversible path toward the European integration.

“The negotiation process for Albania is perhaps more important than the membership itself, because this process provides an impetus for structural change and enables a comprehensive reform.

“If the opening of negotiations becomes a reality in June, this will be an additional opportunity to realize the radical changes that we aspire to make Albania more socially righteous, democratically stronger and institutionally more functional.

“The negotiation process enables the full institutional realization of Albania,” said Cakaj.

Under the framework of “Europe Week”, Ambassador Luigi Soreca presented the survey conducted by the EU delegation in which 58.5% of respondents believed that Albania is ready to join the European Union, while 35.8% suggested the country is not ready yet.
