Damages in agriculture, experts give advice for farmers after the floods

Field crops such as wheat and barley, and also seasonal vegetables, have suffered significant damage as a result of recent floods.

There were about 10,000 hectares of land under water, while Agricultural Policy Expert, Ndoc Fasllia says it will take several months for the land to return to its previous state.

Professor Fasllia says that the first step for farmers once the water has retreated is land drainage and enrichment with organic fertilizers.

"Farmers need to drain their lands after the withdrawal of water" said Ndoc Fasllia.

Regarding the reasons and causes for the floods, Professor Ndoc Fasllia noted the lack of drainage infrastructure, while appealing for an analysis to be conducted on the effectiveness of investments.

The recent floods significantly affected the Vlora and Fier areas. In addition the considerable damage to agricultural crops and livestock, many families also suffered damage to their homes.
