Clashes For Quarries

Decorative stone extraction firms in Tomorri Mountain have been protesting in the village of Novaj in the Skrapar district as, according to them, they have been prevented from continuing their work by the Police.

Following the Administrative Court ruling, overturning the government's Decision of Council of Ministers to declare Tomorri Mountain a "National Park", firms have decided to resume work after a 22-month suspension in the area.

Their truck launch was blocked by numerous Police Forces in the village of Novaj, where Rapid Intervention Forces came to the aid of Berati police.

Berat District Police Directorate has confirmed that they have not been formally informed with the decision of the Administrative Court. They confirm that the moment this decision is notified to Police, it will be implemented.

But the executives of the decorative stone extraction companies considered the intervention by the police to prevent their work as completely unjust.

They said that even if they were not officially allowed to go on with their work after the court ruling, they would be raised in protest.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism is gathering petition signatures to further appeal the Administration's decision to the Supreme Court.
